I am a tried and true dirt track fan, but each year I have a goal of taking in at least one short track pavement race because there is just something special about the unique sounds and scents of the pavement cars, not to mention how sharp looking they always are. I have been to Hawkeye Downs, Grundy County, LaCrosse, Wisconsin Dells, Slinger, Madison, Rockford and Marshfield, so of the tracks that I tally these points from using the standard 5-point scale, that leaves Jefferson, Golden Sands, State Park, Elko and Wisconsin International on my "bucket list". And yes, I did get my one pavement race in early this season when I visited the New Smyrna Speedway during Speedweeks.
This is the sixth year that I have tracked these points and for the sixth year in a row Jacob Goede takes the championship. Goede actually trailed Zack Riddle at mid-season, but a strong second half that was topped off with three wins during the Octoberfest weekend in LaCrosse propelled Goede to the top once again. The Twin Cities based driver picked up nine victories in his twenty-five top five finishes. Dale Nottestad is the runner-up to Goede for the second year in a row as he picked up four feature wins in seventeen top fives while Riddle improved one position over his previous year standing by taking third with eight of his twelve top fives ending up in victory lane.

We have a "three-peat" in the Super Late Models as Justin Mondeik does it again, but by just a one point bulge over Mark Eswein. Mondeik was actually at that race that we went to in Florida and perhaps we will see the 2022 TUNDRA champion out on the road more in 2023 as Bob Sargent and Track Enterprises have announced a National Series for Pavement Super Late Models starting next year. Justin was an eight time feature winner in 2022 as he scored points in seventeen events. Eswein, who ranked eighth in these standings in 2021, jumps to second with three wins in sixteen top fives and Grundy County Speedway regular D.J. Weltmeyer takes third with two wins in fifteen top five finishes. The Dyer, Indiana, racer was sixteenth on this list last season.
