After winning the IMCA Modified National Championship in both 2023 and 2024 from his home base in Arizona, Chaz Baca has based himself in central Iowa for the past two seasons and after ranking 23rd in the All Iowa Points last year, he vaults to the top in 2026 for his first All Iowa Points Modified title. It is the first "first-time" champion in the division since Austen Becerra won his first of two in 2022.
With the ability to race weekly four nights a week, Baca rolled up forty top five finishes with fourteen of them ending in victory lane to out score runner-up Spencer Diercks by seven points. The runner-up for the second year in a row, Diercks was a nineteen time feature winner in thirty-four top five outings. Third goes to Dubuque's Jed Freiburger who matches his best finish of third in this his fifth straight season of making the top ten in the All Iowa Points. Freiburger ticked off eleven feature victories in his forty top five finishes.
The 2008 champion Todd Shute paced the field early before ending in the fourth spot, fifth goes to the two-time and defending champion Jeremy Mills while Jace Eckrich, the son of two-time AIP Late Model champion Denny Eckrich, makes his first appearance in the top ten at sixth. Last year's Newcomer of the Year Harley Dais ranks seventh, eighth goes to two-time champion Austen Becerra who also posted a top ten finish in the Late Models this year, another two-time champ Jeff Larson comes in ninth while the California transplant Cody Laney completes the top ten.
The Newcomer of the Year in the Modifieds is Matt Fulton Jr. who scored 21 points to tie for 83rd in the final standings.
We will continue our class by class summaries of the 2026 All Iowa Points in the days to come right here on the Back Stretch.
