Scoring The Most Points of All Divisions in 2018, John Oliver Jr. Wins The All Iowa Points Stock Car Title

After finishing as the runner-up to 2017 champion Nathan Wood, John Oliver Jr. came out of the gate like gang busters in 2018 building up more than a fifty point lead by mid-season before outlasting four-time champion Damon Murty to win his first All Iowa Points Stock Car title.

The veteran driver from the southeast Iowa town of Danville rolled up sixteen feature wins and an amazing fifty-five top five finishes to tally the most points of any driver across all nine divisions tracked in the All Iowa Points with 209. Racing weekly at Donnellson, Burlington and Vinton you would also find Oliver at just about any mid-week special event in the region and, as the statistics show, he usually finished in the top five.

Murty, who was the champion for four straight years from 2013 through 2016, made a big push at the end of the season to get to within twenty-five markers of the champ as he claims the runner-up honors with twenty-six wins in forty-two top five finishes. Minnesota based driver Derek Green was a solid third with eighteen victories on points paying tracks while western Illinois driver Abe Huls was just two points behind Green taking twenty-one checkered flags along the way.

Many time IMCA Stock Car National champion Mike Nichols had another strong showing in fifth this season with twenty-two wins on AIP tracks and several more beyond the fifty-mile reach into other states.

To find the "Newcomer of the Year", or the driver who had never posted a top five finish in the division before on an All Iowa Points track you have to go down to the 90th name on the list for Chad Clancy of Polo, Missouri, who earned his points with Bethany getting back into the swing of things. The true best "rookie" to the division in 2018 though would be one point behind Clancy in Andrew Borchardt of Plymouth.
