The Beat Goes On As Shannon Anderson Captures His Sixth All Iowa Points Hobby Stock Championship

Another year and another All Iowa Points Hobby Stock Championship for Shannon Anderson making it now six titles overall and his fourth over the last six years. Anderson's first two AIP championships came in 2008 and 2009 before yielding to Devin Smith for the next three years and in 2013 those two drivers finished in a dead heat at the top of the standings with both getting credit for a championship. The second generation driver then won again in 2015 and 2017 before collecting title number six this season.

What is amazing about Anderson as you score his wins week after week is that he is always starting from either the tenth or twelfth position under the IMCA lineup format, yet he found his way to the front thirty-four times to take the feature win as part of his thirty-nine top fives. The two other drivers on the podium had more top five finishes than the champ, but could not equal his point total as Eric Stanton is the runner-up with twenty-four wins and forty top fives. Leah Wroten was the early leader in the 2018 points chase as she looked to join the 2016 All Iowa Points Four Cylinder champion Kimberly Abbott as the second female to win an AIP title. Wroten finished the season with an impressive forty-nine top five finishes including nine feature wins as she finished third in the final standings.

Last year's runner-up Chanse Hollatz was fourth this year with thirteen wins to his credit. USRA National Champion Dustin Gulbrandson was fifth winning sixteen times along the way. The 2014 champion Dustin Griffiths, who now competes in the Stock Car class as well, ranked thirteenth in the final Hobby Stock standings.

The Newcomer of the Year, the highest finishing driver who had not posted a top-five finish in the division before is Adam Ayers of Adair who had three feature wins this season and finished 23rd in the final standings.
