When the Spring Nationals at Beatrice were weathered out on the second weekend in March little did we know at the time that it would be until the first week in June before any racing would be held in the state of Nebraska. Once things did get underway though it was some familiar names in victory lane and at least one of this years Nebraska State Points champion will be a contender for the title of "Best In The Midwest" in his division. These points are tabulated using the same 5-point scale that is used for the All Iowa Points and have been tracked each year since 2016.
Cory Dumpert was virtually unstoppable in the IMCA Late Model division this season rolling up twenty-four feature wins and thirty-six top five finishes during this abbreviated season. His point total of 154 is 95 points better than runner-up Ben Sukup who had a respectable five wins and sixteen top fives in 2020. This is the third Nebraska state title for Dumpert to go with 2016 and 2019 and his fourth state points championship overall as he was the best in Kansas in 2018. Last year Cory was the runner-up in the "Best In The Midwest" Late Model standings with 146 points, so look for him to be at our near the top of that list again when it is released in December. Zach Zentner joins Dumpert and Sukup on the podium with seventeen top five finishes on the season.

Jordan Grabouski is now five for five in our Nebraska state points staying on top of the list of Modified drivers for the fifth straight year. Grabouski picked up twelve wins in thirty-three top five finishes this season and with some points earned in other states as well he just might be able to repeat his "Best In The Midwest" title as well. Anthony Roth is the runner-up to Grabouski for the third year in a row after winning eight times in his twenty-eight top five finishes and Mark Leiting climbs from sixteenth in the 2019 standings to third in 2020 winning five times in eighteen top fives.

Brian Osantowski is a first time Nebraska state champion in the Limited Modifieds on the strength of fourteen feature victories in his nineteen top five finishes. It was a solid jump to the top of the list for the driver from Columbus who has finished twelfth, thirteenth, twenty-second and fifteenth over the previous four seasons. James Roebuck extends his streak to five years a row in the top with his best showing yet, a runner-up finish after winning ten times in nineteen top fives. Roebuck's previous best was a third in 2016, the same year that this year's third place finisher, Kyle Prauner, was the Nebraska state champion. Prauner was in the five eighteen times in 2020 with five feature wins and he is tied with the 2018 champion Lance Borgman who won four times in twenty top fives. Sixth ranked Tyler Nerud had the most top fives in the division this year with twenty-two.

It was a small sampling with the Winged Sprint Cars in the state this year and running against small car counts each week at his home track in Stuart allowed Bob Dvorak to claim the Nebraska state title by just one point over Jason Danley. The runner-up in these standings last year, and never lower than seventh since 2016, Dvorak's first state title comes with five wins in seven top five finishes. Danley whose previous best finish was twenty-first in 2018 had one feature win in his eight top fives this season while three-time and defending champion Tyler Drueke clocks in third with three wins in nine top five finishes.
This is the first year that we have tracked the IMCA/USRA type Stock Car division outside of Iowa and it should come as no surprise the the 2020 IMCA Stock Car National Champion Mike Nichols is also our 2020 Nebraska state champion. On Nebraska tracks Nichols captured fourteen feature wins, six runner-up finishes and one third place showing to edge out Neligh's Cameron Wilkinson by seventeen points.
