This odd and unprecedented 2020 racing season has wrapped up on the dirt tracks of North Dakota and it will be the first of several state point races that we highlight this year using the standard 5-point scale of the All Iowa Points system. Once all of the states are completed, perhaps as late as the weekend of December 19th in Missouri, we will then pull all of them together for our annual Best of the Midwest standings. So keep an eye on the Back Stretch over the next couple of months and see which drivers were at the top of the list in each state.

Dustin Strand made it five years in a row at the top of the North Dakota Late Model standings as his seventeen top five finishes were three more than any of his competition and that included six feature wins. With his runner-up finish in 2020, Brad Seng now makes it four years in row where he has been either second or third in these standings. Seng tallied five feature wins in fourteen top five finishes in the abbreviated season that saw the rest of the pack far behind.

With the 2019 champion Tom Berry Jr. taking his talents to Iowa in 2020 that left the door open for a new Modified champion with Travis Hagen climbing the ladder to the top after being in the top five each of the past three seasons. Hagen and two-time champion Jason Wolla (2016-17) both had nineteen top five finishes in 2020, but with seven wins Hagen's point total was five better than Wolla who posted five wins this season. Marlyn Seidler ranked third with eight feature wins in his fourteen top fives, that is one spot better than where he landed in 2019.
After finishing ninth, twelfth and eight over the past three seasons, Brennon Weight lifts his way to the top of the Limited Modified standings in 2020. The driver from Lamoure was a nine time feature winner this year in his fourteen top fives and that gave him just two more markers than runner-up Nate Reinke. Reinke has been near the top of the standings as well over the last three years ranking fifth, fourth and seventh from 2017 through 2019 as he had seventeen top fives with four feature wins in 2020. Nate Reynolds ranks third with six wins in fifteen top five finishes.

The race for the top of the Winged Sprint Car standings was tight between two drivers with Austin Pierce edging out Jade Hastings by just two points. This is the second state title for Pierce who also was on top in 2017 and it is his fifth year in a row in the top four. Pierce's fourteen top-five finishes were one more than Hastings' total and Austin had eight wins to Jade's six. The two-time defending champion Wade Nygaard ranks third with twelve top five finishes to build his point total.

This is the first year that we have tracked the Stock Car (IMCA type) division with the first North Dakota title going to Williston's Dalton Flory. Flory was a six time feature winner in his nineteen top five finishes.
