Let's start with the Late Models where Chad Becker continues his domination by earning his tenth straight South Dakota Points title. Kent Arment is the only other Late Model champion winning in 2026, the first year that we started tracking the state. It was a much closer race this year though as Becker clicked off six wins in twenty-three top fives to edge out Mike Stearns by just two points. Stearns, who will talk about more in the next class, was a Late Model winner five times in twenty-six top five finishes whole Josh Skorczewski takes third with four wins in eighteen top fives.
In the Modifieds, Mike Stearns earns his third straight South Dakota Points championship winning eleven times in twenty-five top five outings posting 41 points more than runner-up Eric Mass who was an eleven time winner in thirteen top fives at the Black Hills Speedway. R.J. Merchant takes third with five wins in thirteen top fives.
Sticking with repeat champions we move to the Winged Sprint Car division where Lee Goos Jr. used six wins in fifteen top fives on South Dakota tracks to notch his sixth straight South Dakota Points honor. Track regulars at Black Hills finish in second and third as Mike Pennel took four feature wins in fourteen top fives to come just five points shy of Goos, while Adam Speckman was a three-time winner in fourteen top five performances.
Dawson Zabel is a first time South Dakota Points champion in the Limited Modifieds where he scored ten wins in twenty-six top fives and joining him on the podium are a pair of former champions. Two-time champ Willy Kirk is second with nine wins in eighteen top fives while the defending champion Todd Stark takes third with four wins in twenty top fives.
The Stock Car class can only be found at one track in the state currently, Park Jefferson, where veteran driver Greg Peck earned his first South Dakota Points title by taking six wins in seventeen top five finishes. Travis Barker, who has won four of the seven years that we have tracked this division here, settles for second with five wins in fifteen top fives while Ryan Harris takes third with three wins in thirteen top fives.
We will have additional state summaries as the final checkers wave over the next several weeks, so stay in touch with the Back Stretch.
