Saturday Morning Notebook: Points from Missouri, Illinois and more....

Not much to write about this morning other than to complain about the weather. I am still holding out hope that the Quad City Speedway will be able to run the Deery Brothers Summer Series Hershel Roberts Memorial event tomorrow (Sunday) night and at the very least I am hoping that we get to watch some action from Talladega this weekend. The forecast does look much better for racing on Tuesday night, May 7th, when the IMCA Modified Hawkeye Dirt Tour will run its opener at the Benton County Speedway in Vinton and then on Wednesday night, May 8th, the Deery Series will hit the high banks at the Dubuque Speedway. Hope to see you at both.

Sorry to learn that Mark Widmar's injuries from the crash at Oskaloosa Wednesday night were more serious than originally thought. Mark has been transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City where he will receive the best of care and I know that all race fans wish him a full and speedy recovery.

The race schedule that Kyle Larson is maintaining is incredible as after qualifying for the Nationwide race at Talladega on Friday he then flew up to Eldora Speedway where he finished tenth in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car main event. Kerry Madsen topped the field of thirty-nine cars.

There was a new name atop the results sheet in the 410 Winged Sprint Car feature at the Jacksonville Speedway last Friday night when Joe B. Miller won his first career main event in this division.

If you think that us race fans in Iowa have it rough, I'm not sure that a single event has been run yet up in Minnesota or the Dakotas, but it looks like our weather is forecasted to straighten out soon.
