Track Tires And What To Do With Them

I enjoy getting comments from readers whether they are good, bad or indifferent as it is nice to know that somebody is actually taking a look at things here. And, while in Oskaloosa Thursday night I had four faithful readers mention something about the track tires causing cautions at the Lee County Speedway that I had complained about in the Notes section of that report.Three of those gave me a good ribbing about the topic while one of them, Jeff Terhune, stated the obvious solution as we were leaving the grandstand.

Jeff's idea? Fill one of the track tires with concrete and inform the drivers at the pre-race meeting that there is one tire out there that will no longer budge when it has been clipped. But then don't tell them which one it is. Chances are that the drivers will now give all of the track tires plenty of of space as they race around the 3/8th-mile oval.

I like it!

Oh yes, and at Osky on Thursday night not a single caution flag waved for a track tire being kicked out onto the racing surface. Osky's tires are three times as big and likely three times as heavy.

Enjoy your racing weekend!
