In this crazy COVID influenced season of 2020, tracks in South Dakota were the only show going here in the upper Midwest back in late April, but the virus definitely took a bite out of the schedule at several tracks. Following are the state point standings for the four primary divisions that we track for several states in the mid-section of the country using the same 5-point scale that we use for the All Iowa Points with each feature race counting the same, whether it is a weekly show or a special event.
Chad Becker of Aberdeen continues to dominate in the Late Model division taking his fourth straight state title and he has been crowned the "Best In The Midwest" in the division twice in 2017 and 2019 as well. Becker's point total of 105 will not get him to the top of that list again in 2020, but it is a full fifty points more than this year's runner-up Scott Ward. Becker posted eight feature wins as part of his twenty-eight top five finishes in 2020 compared to Ward's eight wins in just thirteen top fives. Tyler McDonald ranks third with seven wins in thirteen top fives and the 2019 South Dakota Limited Modified Champion Cole Searing made an impressive jump into the Late Model class finishing sixth in his rookie season.

After ranking 43rd in 2019, Tyler Myers of Alexandria makes the big jump to the top of the Limited Modified standings with twelve feature wins and twenty-three top five finishes to earn the 2020 South Dakota championship. Mike Nichols of Watertown had eleven wins and twenty-two top fives for the runner-up honors, his previous best finish was fifth in 2016. Camden Myers sits in the third position after winning five times in twenty-five top five showings. His best showing previously was sixth in 2017. Adam Brotherton climbs from eleventh last year to fourth this year and the 2019 "Best In The Midwest" champion for the Limited Mods and runner-up to Cole Searing in the state last year, Cody Thompson ranks fifth in 2020 with eleven wins in sixteen top five finishes.

In the Winged Sprint Car division that includes 305's, 360's and 410's all in one group, Elliott Amdahl takes the South Dakota title by just one point over Dusty Ballenger and two points over Jack Dover. Amdahl scored six wins in twelve top five finishes, Ballenger was twice a winner in his fourteen top five showings and Dover won seven times in eleven top five finishes. Both Ballenger (305's) and Dover (360's) will win All Iowa Points titles in 2020 where the divisions are separated.
