Russell, Wille, Morton and Cornell Are 2012 All Missouri Points Champions

Jonathan Cornell returned to the top of the Sprint Car division while three drivers earned their first ever All Missouri points title as the 2012 racing season in the "Show-Me" state wrapped up with the running of the Turkey Classic on Saturday. The points are awarded on a 5-point scale with drivers earning five points for a win on any dirt track in Missouri throughout the season.

Cornell held off the three time and defending champion Tommy Worley Jr. to earn his second All Missouri Points sprint car crown as the Sedalia driver posted ten wins and five runner-up finishes on Missouri tracks in 2012. Cornell was also the champion in 2010. Worley had more top fives than did the champion with sixteen and he won five feature races while competing weekly at the Saint Francois County Raceway in Farmington. Tyler Blank finished just one point behind Worley in the third position while Jimmy Hurley and Robbie Standridge completed the top five.

The Late Model point race was pretty much decided by mid-season as Jason Russell dominated the division in 2012 scoring ten wins among his twenty-seven top five finishes. It was another successful season for the driver from Henley as he also finished seventh in the 2012 Modified standings. Randy Korte made a triumphant return from back surgery to finish in the second spot, Justin Wells ranked third, Joe Walkenhorst was fourth and Chris Lapp completed the top five.

Terry Schultz and Dean Wille swapped the lead back and forth throughout most of the season, but in the end Wille pulled away to post his first All Missouri Points Modified championship. The Warrensburg driver scored thirteen feature wins on the season and his runner-up finish at the Turkey Classic in Springfield was his twenty-seventh top-five finish on the season. Schultz had eight wins and twenty-six top-fives to finish in the second spot while the Springfield Raceway track champion Jackie Dalton was third. Jason Hughes of West Plains finished in the fourth spot while Illinois based driver David Wietholder was fifth.

The top three point scorers overall this season were in the Limited Modified division and those three were all in contention for the title until the final month when J.C. Morton of Springfield pulled away for his first All Missouri Points championship. Morton led the way with thirty-six top five finishes that included thirteen feature wins and he edged out the defending champion Shawn Strong by just nine points. Strong also captured thirteen checkered flags on the season while the third ranked driver Kris Jackson tallied twenty-one victories. Veteran driver Scott Drake finished in the fourth spot, also winning thirteen times, while ten time winner Scotty Martin was fifth.
