Wednesday Notebook: May 18, 2016

Not much to say in today's notebook as I get ready to hit the road for tonight's Shottenkirk.com Sprint Invaders event at the Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines. Graduation parties and other commitments will likely keep me away from the track until Sunday when I hope to work in a return visit to the Benton County Speedway in Vinton as the IMCA Late Models will be back in action there.

I have to admit that it is pretty cool how the Gateway Dirt Nationals is posting action shots of each of their pre-entries on the event's Facebook page, but I wonder why they have not also been daily adding to the Pre-Entry list page on the website.

National dirt Late Model racing has really become a case where you have three dominant drivers evidenced not only by the Back Stretch National Dirt Late Model points at the bottom of this post (note the gap between third and fourth), but also the finish of this past weekend's $50,000-to-win Buckeye Nationals. Scott Bloomquist, Jonathan Davenport and Josh Richards went one-two-three. Everybody else is chasing.

Another wet and cold weekend allowed me to keep up with my insanity of tracking "state points" using a 5-point scale for several other states in the Midwest. You can always find the full All Iowa Points, updated weekly as soon as the Webmistress can post them, at Positively Racing and I will do my best to post updates from a couple of states here each week.
