Final Indiana Points for 2022

The 2022 racing season has come to a close in the state of Indiana and this is our seventh year of tracking the state points in four divisions using the same standard 5-point scale that we use for the All Iowa Points. One driver repeated his Indiana Points championship, two returned to the top of the list and one driver added his name to the list of champions over the years for the first time.

That new Indiana Points Champion is Bloomington's Jordan Wever who takes the Modified title by posting twenty-nine events where he scored points including fourteen feature wins. Wever finished third in 2020, but leap frogged the two drivers that had finished ahead of him for the 2022 honors. Defending champion Derek Groomer finished second with seventeen feature wins in twenty-six top fives and the 2020 champion Derek Losh is third after taking the checkers first in eighteen of his twenty-three top five feature runs.

The traditional Sprint Cars, those without wings, headline most of the weekly shows in the Hoosier state and Indiana is the only state that we track their points. Kyle Cummins, who was the champion here in 2019 and who ranked tenth in last year's standings, returns to the top of the list by winning eight times in twenty top fives. He is followed by a pair of transplanted Californians in Jake Swanson and Geoff Ensign as both drivers won six times in their seventeen top five finishes. 

Steve Peeden is the repeat champion as he makes it two in a row in the Late Models scoring eight wins in seventeen top five finishes. Chad Stapleton and Tyler Collins finish in a tie for second. Collins, who sat in fourth in these standings last year, picked up five wins in fifteen top five finishes while Stapleton used his seventeen top fives including two wins to improve from just scoring two points in 2021.

In the Winged Sprint Cars division Ethan Barrow picks up his third state title with six wins in thirteen top five finishes. Barrow was also the Indiana Points champion in 2018 and 2020 and finished third last season. John Paynter Jr. improves from sixth to second after posting four wins in twelve top five finishes and young Bryce Norris takes third winning once in eight top fives.
