Coming into the month of September Justin Kay sat in a tie for sixth in this year's All Iowa Points Late Model chase, but with a win at Vinton on September 3rd and then three wins and a second during the final two weeks of the month, the veteran driver from Wheatland overcame his competition to score his fifth All Iowa Points title.

This is Justin' second straight championship and he won three in a row from 2013 through 2015. Only three drivers have more All Iowa Points Late Model championships and they are Ed Sanger and Gary Webb who each have eight, and Ray Guss Jr. who has seven since the points began in 1967. All three of these drivers have been inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame and the "Flyin' Farmer" continues to build his resume' for similar consideration!
Kay captured twelve feature wins in his twenty-six top five finishes on All Iowa Points paying tracks in 2022. Three-time champion Matt Ryan (2017, 2019-20) was a five time feature winner in twenty-seven top five finishes to take the runner up position for the second year in a row and taking third was Bellevue, Nebraska, driver Zach Zeitner. With his ten wins in twenty-one top five showings, Zeitner came up just nine points short of becoming only the second Late Model driver in fifty-six years to win an AIP Late Model title while based west of Interstate 35. Joe Kosiski in 1992 remains as the only Late Model driver to do so.
Nick Marolf and Tommy Elston tied for the fourth position in the final rundown and the Newcomer of the Year, or the driver who has not scored an All Iowa Point in the division prior to this year is true Late Model rookie Dustin Schram. A former two-time Illinois Points Limited Modified champion in 2017 and 2018, Schram made the move to the division at the start of 2022 and picked up two feature wins on his way to a 22nd place showing in these standings.
