Saturday's Charlie Clark Memorial closed out the 2023 racing season in the state of South Dakota and this will be the eighth year that we have presented the state point standings using the same 5-point scale that we use for the All Iowa Points. These points will also be combined with the thirteen other states that we tabulate to determine our five drivers that will be named the Best of the Midwest for 2023.
Late Model ace Chad Becker has earned that BotM title twice and, after dominating for his seventh straight South Dakota Points championship he might just be in the hunt again. Becker had seventeen feature wins in twenty-seven top five finishes this season boosting him to a 52 point edge over runner-up Cole Searing. The only other driver to win a South Dakota Points Late Model title is Kent Arment back in our first year of doing this in 2016. The 2019 Limited Modified champion, Searing improves from fourth in the Late Model standings last year to second in '23 with eighteen top fives including seven feature victories. Last season's runner-up Josh Skorczewski drops one spot to third with three wins in eighteen top fives.

Huron's Dale Ames takes his first South Dakota Points championship in the Modifieds by winning seven times in twenty-to top fives. Ames was the runner-up last season to two-time champion Mike Stearns. Eric Mass dominated the division at his hometown track, the Black Hills Speedway, standing in victory lane after twelve of his fourteen top five showings. After two straight championship seasons Stearns is one of three drivers tied for second winning four times in twenty-one top fives while Fargo, North Dakota's Joseph Thomas was a six-time winner in his seventeen top five outings here.

Young Willy Kirk out of Sloan, Iowa, repeats his South Dakota Points Limited Modified title banking twenty-seven top fives with six of them being feature wins. Karl Brewer, who finished seventh in 2022, climbs to second in the standings with ten wins in sixteen top fives while last year's runner-up Adam Brotherton slips to third. The driver from Huron scored seven victories in his eighteen top five efforts.

Make it three straight South Dakota Points Winged Sprint Car titles for Lee Goos Jr. as he puts up seven wins in seventeen top fives here in 2023. Goos is also the All Iowa Points 305 champion for the second straight season. The top three remains the same from 2022 with Travis Reber again the runner-up winning five times in eleven top tens while the 2020 champion Elliot Amdahl again ranks third with four wins in ten point earning races.

This is just the fourth year of tracking the Stock Car division in South Dakota and Travis Barker returns to the top of the list for the third time after finishing second to Todd Gereau in 2022. Barker left no doubt this season posting twenty-two top five finishes with five of them being wins. Kipp DeGroot worked his way up from sixth last year to second this season taking six victories in ten top fives while veteran Jason Ward ranks third with two wins in thirteen top fives. He was third last year as well.
