Racing more than fifty nights at thirteen different tracks, Kolby Sabin of Des Moines earned his first All Iowa Points Championship in the Four Cylinder class for 2023. In a class that typically goes right down to the wire, Sabin had posted more than enough points by the end of the regular season that he did not even race after the IMCA Super Nationals and he still finished 48 points ahead of the two-time defending champion Cyle Hawkins.

As I provide the stats for the top three, keep in mind that this is the only All Iowa Points division where the points scale is determined by the car count at each event. With ten or more cars in attendance the full 5-point scale is awarded. With six to nine cars on hand a 3-point scale is used and with three, four or five cars signed in, the winner only is given one point.
Sabin would score points on forty-five race nights with sixteen of them being feature wins against a field of ten or more cars. Hawkins would tally fifteen of those "full field" victories while scoring points on thirty-two nights and Sioux City's Tyler Thompson would place third after posting nine victories where the car count was at ten or above and he picked up points in thirty-five events. Shannon Mahlberg would finish fourth in the final standings while Levi Volkert ranked fifth.
The Newcomer of the Year for the division is Stephen Randall who tied for 39th in the final standings and the fact that so few "new names" in the division had much success in 2023 is part of the reason that I penned What To Do With The Four Cylinders back in September. Here's hoping that something can be done to reverse the trend of declining car counts in this class that is so important to the success of a weekly race track.
