Local driver Mark Whitener went to flag-to-flag unchallenged to win the 30-lap UMP Late Model feature at the North Florida Speedway near Lake City Sunday night. Whitener from nearby Middleburg considers this to be his home track and cruised to the $5,000 win after running second in each of the last two years here. Frankie Heckenast finished second despite the fact that he lost a right rear shock in the final laps and essentially had to put the whip to a three-legged horse to hold off Morgan Bagley. Kyle Bronson and Kyle Beard completed the top five. Sixteen Late Models were on hand for the event that was actually up from the 13-car fields that it has drawn for two years straight.
Thirty-three UMP Modifieds were in action with NASCAR celebrity Kenny Wallace scoring the win over Nick Hoffman, Kevin Adams, Devin Gilpin and Kyle Bronson. Ken Schrader finished in the sixth spot and Kewanee, Illinois, driver Ray Bollinger was eleventh.
Kerry Madsen made it three in a row as the All Star Sprint Cars closed out their weekend at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala. The Sprint Cars now move on to the Volusia County Speedway this week for first All Star sanctioned racing before the World of Outlaws kick off their 2015 season there later in the week.
The Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series Winternationals opener at the East Bay Raceway in Gibsonton has been rained out for Monday night. In the past the track has scheduled a daytime make up race at some point during the week, but as of this writing nothing has been announced.
A change in the ownership at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City as Mike and Kyle Johnson have sold their 50% interest to partners Don and Donna Marrs. A lawsuit had just recently been filed by the Marrs against the Johnsons and rather than going to court it was good that they could just come to this agreement instead. The Johnsons will now focus on their track near Winston, Missouri, the I-35 Speedway.
