Cold Here But Worse Elsewhere; Car Show This Saturday in Moline!

As we shiver through one last day (hopefully) of bitterly cold temperatures our neighbors to the south and east of us are experiencing a late season snow and ice storm that will no doubt wipe out all thoughts of racing this weekend in that area. The Tuckasee Toilet Bowl Classic in Clarksville, Tennessee has been postponed, traditional Sprint Car openers in Pennsylvania will not happen, Hagerstown, Maryland, will not open as scheduled this weekend and that just names a few of the events that are falling by the wayside. A friend of mine in Louisville, Kentucky today said that they have nearly a foot of snow on the ground from today's storm and it is still falling. Meanwhile, I look out my window and despite a 17 degree temperature the early March sun continues to eat away at the snow cover to a point where I am now seeing about a fifty/fifty split between brown grass and snow cover. Help is on the way though for all of us as warmer than normal conditions are expected for most of next week.

With that hint of Spring in the air this Saturday, those of you in the Quad Cities area should venture out to the "Slingin' Dirt in the SouthPark Mall" car show in Moline March 7th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our Positively Racing colleague Brad Hines has worked hard on this event and you will see more than twenty-five race cars on display from a variety of divisions, plus representatives of the Davenport Speedway, The Quad City Speedway, Farley Speedway, Dubuque Speedway and West Liberty Raceway will be on hand to let you know what they have in store for you in the seasson ahead. If I don't end up at Carver Hawkeye Arena for Senior Day I will definitely be heading for Moline to get my first look at some race cars!

Shane Stewart held off Brian Brown to win the World of Outlaws Sprint Car main event in Las Vegas Wednesday night and the winged warriors will be back at it tonight before heading south for a weekend doubleheader in Tucson. Minnesota's Don Shaw was the Late Model feature winner on Wednesday night while Arizona's R.C. Whitwell topped a field of 50 IMCA Modifieds.

Still hoping to get my first official race of 2015 in the books next Friday night in Beatrice, Nebraska! Let's check in and see how much those forecasts are changing......

Beatrice, Nebraska Friday March 13th: Considerable cloudiness and 59

Donnellson, Iowa Saturday March 28th: Cloudy with a little rain and 49

Burlington, Iowa Saturday April 11th: Colder with plenty of clouds and 55
