Brown and Houseman Are First Time Champs, Dover Earns His Fourth All Iowa Points Title

Brian Brown and Mike Houseman Jr. captured their first All Iowa Points titles while Jack Dover etched his name on the "Wall of Fame" for a fourth time in winged sprint car competition for 2018.

Brown has long been a top competitor scoring the fourth highest point total from 2000 through 2018 in the 410 division, but a single season All Iowa Points championship has eluded him usually going to one of the three drivers who rank ahead of him on that cumulative seasons list Terry McCarl (a record twelve time champion), Mark Dobmeier (a six time champion) or Danny Lasoski (a seven time champion). This year though Brown jumped out to a big lead early and then maintained it to the end winning seven times in fifteen top five finishes.

The 2018 Knoxville Raceway track champion Austin McCarl had his best AIP showing ever with a second place finish posting five wins in twelve top five finishes. The 2017 champion in the 410's Kerry Madsen finished third with five feature wins with Terry McCarl bouncing back from an early season injury to place fourth on the 410 list. This year's Knoxville Nationals champion Brad Sweet ranked fifth while the Newcomer of the Year in the 410's is Carson Macedo who drove the Jason Johnson Racing #41 during this year's Nationals and scored eight points on the All Iowa Points scale.

You can also click on that link to see how Jack Dover earned his fourth all Iowa Points 360 Sprint Car title while seldom racing on tracks that are actually in Iowa. Dover won six times and had fifteen top five finishes on points paying tracks and adds the 2018 season to 2010, '11 and '12 when he topped the 360 points list. (Note: Dover tied with Eric Lutz in 2010 and both are recognized as Champions for that year) 



Three-time and defending AIP 360 champion Clint Garner is the runner-up in 2018 taking five feature wins in twelve top fives while Lee Grosz is third with three wins in fourteen top fives. Knoxville regulars Ryan Giles and Jon Agan fill out the top five while Mason Daniel, the young driver from California who was under the instruction of Danny Lasoski in this his rookie season in a Sprint Car is the 360 Newcomer of the Year in the 11th position including a feature win.

Since switching to the Racesaver 305 division a few years back Mike Houseman Jr. has been a nightly favorite to be in victory lane and after winning eight times as part of thirteen top five finishes the Des Moines driver is the 2018 All Iowa Points 305 Winged Sprint Car champion. The Knoxville Raceway track champion Eric Bridger finishes three points behind him in second with the same number of top fives and seven feature wins. Burlington's Tanner Gebhardt who is now a freshman in college continues his improvement with a third-place ranking in 2018. The 2003 champion in the 360's, Dusty Ballenger placed fourth on this list while Brady Forbrook and Jason Martin tied for the fifth position.

The 305 Newcomer of the Year was the 2014 All Iowa Points Mod Lite champion before moving to the Sport Mod division for a couple of seasons. He bought a Sprint Car late in 2017 and despite getting a late start this year Dan Keltner was still able to win four times and finish 21st in these standings.
