Final Kansas Points for 2018

With the Chisholm Trail Showdown weathered out at 81 Speedway near Wichita last weekend the 2018 racing season is complete in the state of Kansas and we can now present our state point standings that use the same 5-point scale as the All Iowa Points. As always these points are only as accurate as the tracks' ability to report the results and in Kansas we continue to struggle with the Sherman County Speedway and the Thomas County Speedway, plus on the two race nights at Heartland Park this year the B-Mods raced but no results were provided.

In the Late Model division Nebraska's Cory Dumpert has taken to the Crate class quite well making numerous trips to the Sunflower state and winning this year's title. Dumpert had thirteen top five finishes, two fewer than runner-up Delbert Smith, but with eight of those being feature wins it gave him a six point advantage over the ageless veteran. "The Iceman" Smith scored two wins on the season and finished second five times, most of them to Dumpert. Keep your eye on the Caney Valley Speedway where the Late Model class started running weekly mid-season and the counts steadily grew for the open motor cars with Joe Gorby the best of those in fifth.

Tanner Mullens introduced himself to race fans outside of Kansas by winning the Modified feature on Friday night at the Dome last December, but race fans and his competitors know the Wichita driver well in his home state where he is the 2018 Kansas Modified champion. Mullens was a feature winner thirteen times in his twenty-four top five finishes to easily outdistance the field. Last year's champion Steven Bowers Jr. had one less weekly track to work with this year as he finished second with nine wins and nineteen top fives. Tyler Davis finished third and USRA National Champion Darron Fuqua, who splits his time between Kansas and Missouri, ranks fourth in these standings. We will see how his combined total stacks up when we do our Best of the Midwest standings in December.

After placing sixth last season Tyler Kidwell moves to the top of the chart for the Limited Modifieds this year on the strength of nineteen wins and twenty-seven top fives. Dakota Sproul was in the top five twenty-eight times as moved from third last year to second this season, the driver from Ellis winning seven times along the way. Matthew Kay and Tim Powell tied for the third spot.

Jeremy Campbell tops the list of the Winged Sprint Car drivers as the Michigan transplant won five times in ten top five finishes. Jake Bubak with five wins and Jake Greider with three tied for the second spot.

Still to come over the next few weeks; Kentucky and Arkansas plus the state of Missouri where two events remain on the calendar. This Saturday will be the annual Turkey Bowl at the Springfield Raceway and the weekend after Thanksgiving will be the Gateway Dirt National in the Dome in St. Louis.
