Eleven Events Remain, Five Divisions Still Up For Grabs In The All Iowa Points

With eleven events on All Iowa Points paying tracks remaining on the schedule over the next three weeks there are five divisions where the championships are still undecided with the potential to go down to the final day of racing in 2019.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

Friday October 18th: Hamilton County Speedway, Scotland County Speedway

Saturday October 19th: Scotland County Speedway, Hamilton County Speedway

Friday October 25th: Marshalltown Speedway, Quincy Raceways

Saturday October 26th: Lee County Speedway, Quincy Raceways, Marshalltown Speedway

Saturday November 2nd: CJ Speedway

Sunday November 3rd: CJ Speedway

For those of you who are not familiar with the All Iowa Points, how they are tabulated and why tracks in Missouri and Illinois are on the remaining schedule, click this link.

For the Late Models a driver can still run four nights, so with a twenty-one point advantage Matt Ryan has wrapped up his second All Iowa Points title as even with four wins the defending champion Jeremiah Hurst would come up one point short.

Three drivers remain in contention for the 2019 Modified title as with his performance at the Darkside Fall Bash in Tipton Joel Rust has moved to the lead over defending champion Kelly Shryock. A Modified driver can still get six feature races in so even though he is seventeen points back, Jeff Larson remains in contention if he chooses to hit the road from his base in Freeport, Illinois.

The story is the same in the Stock Cars where three drivers still have a shot at winning the All Iowa Points. Multi-time IMCA National Champion Mike Nichols has been at the top of the list most of the season only to see his once big lead diminish each week in August and September. Since much of his weekly racing over the years has been at tracks well into Nebraska or Kansas, Nichols has never won an All Iowa Points championship and his win at Corning on October 4th kept him ten points ahead of Mitch Hovden who will be one of the favorites in the two nights coming up at Webster City this weekend. Damon Murty sits in the third spot just sixteen points out of the lead, but will Nichols travel over the next three weeks and will Murty be too busy farming to race?

Six nights of racing are still possible in the Limited Modified division and that means that three drivers are still in contention as well. Defending champion Cody Thompson has indicated that he is making the pull to Memphis, Missouri, this weekend so it is likely that all three contenders will be on the same track this Friday and Saturday. Tyler Soppe can wrap up another AIP title with a couple of good runs while Brayton Carter will look to close in on his first championship.

Six nights of racing are remain, but only four are possible in the Hobby Stocks since the class is not on the schedule at Quincy, Donnellson or Columbus Junction, so even though this division has seen the tightest battle among the most drivers all season it now looks like Eric Stanton can wrap up his first All Iowa Points Championship this weekend at his regular Saturday night track. Former champion Cody Nielsen along with Corey Madden and Jason Fusselman are still in the hunt mathematically, but they will need to travel and score points this weekend and hope that Stanton does not crack the top five in order to catch him.

In the Four Cylinders southwest Wisconsin driver Seth Scholl leads the way and he has been known to hit the road for the late season events. With five events still possible for the Four Bangers the two drivers within twenty-five points of Scholl are still in it, but........Two time defending champion Barry Taft is now running a Sport Mod so he would need to borrow a ride to contend and Oliver Monson will have to hit the road over the next three weekends with success in order to keep Scholl from his first AIP championship.

Sprint Car racing around the area is complete for 2019 and the champions in the three divisions have been determined. You can take a peek at those standings on the Points page at Positively Racing, or wait until we share the final standings in all nine divisions in November in this, the 53rd year of the All Iowa Points!

As of right now my plans are to be at the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis this Friday night and then head up to the Hamilton County Speedway on Saturday night. Hope to see you out there on the Back Stretch!
