Final South Dakota Points for 2019

With the first snow storm of the season in the forecast the 2019 racing season has ended in the Dakotas and its time to reveal the state point standings for South Dakota in four divisions. This will be the first of at least twelve states that we track using the same 5-point scale that is used on the All Iowa Points.

For the third year in a row Chad Becker of Aberdeen is the South Dakota Late Model champion in dominant fashion and you can also mark him as an early contender for the "Best of the Midwest" title in the division that pools the point totals together for all of the states that we follow. Becker was the "Best of the Midwest" champion in 2017 and this year's combined points will be released in December.

In this, the 2019 season, Chad won fifteen feature races on tracks in South Dakota and was in the top five twenty-nine times to easily outdistance runner-up Kent Arment by 69 points. Arment's total was just 45 as he edged out last year's runner-up Josh Scorczewski by just one marker. It was the third straight year for Arment to be in either second or third in the final standings. Curt Gelling made it an all Aberdeen top four while Eric Mass won eight features in ranking fifth in the final points.

After finishing eighth and sixth the previous two seasons Watertown's Trevor Anderson moved to the top of the list for the Modifieds in 2019. Anderson won five times and finished second seven times as part of his seventeen top five finishes. Sioux City, Iowa's Chris Mills ranked second just two points behind the champion on the strength of nine feature wins. Mike Stearns improved one spot from where he finished in 2018 by ranking third this season as two more Iowa drivers Jason Schneiders and Jim Thies were next in line. Pulling double duty at the Black Hills Speedway most nights, Eric Mass also ranked sixth in the Modified class.

Cole Searing of Huron is a first-time champion in the Limited Modified standings for South Dakota with an impressive point total built on twenty-nine top five finishes including fifteen feature wins. Cody Thompson ranks second for the second year in a row in South Dakota despite only having sixteen top five finishes. Twelve of them were feature wins though and that earned him one point more than fellow Sioux City, Iowa driver Rusty Montagne who ranked third for the second year in a row. Division rookie Cade Richards made the trip up from Lincoln, Nebraska, to finish fourth in the standings with Tony Konold in fifth. Two-time defending South Dakota Points champion Lorin Johnson finished seventh this year.

In the Winged Sprint Car standings Daniel Nekolite from O'Neill, Nebraska is this year's champion after posting ten top five finishes, two more than any other driver, and winning three times at the Wagner Speedway. Nekolite had finished in a tie for eighth and in a tie for sixth over the past two seasons. Dusty Ballenger and Colin Smith tied for the second spot after ranking third and fifth respectively in 2018, Brant OBanion was fourth and Tyler Drueke filled out the top five.
