After sitting idle for the first half of the season, the Montpelier Speedway made a nice comeback and raced through the final weekend of October to close out the 2024 racing action on the dirt tracks of Indiana. With that we can now reveal the final standings for the Indiana Points where we use the standard 5-point scale for all feature events, weekly or specials, something that we have been doing now since 2016.
It seems to be a theme this year across the states that we track where one driver wins a title for the first time while the rest of the divisions have drivers who repeat, or add to multiple state titles and that is also true in the Hoosier state. The first time champion comes in the Late Model division where Tyler Cain tops the list in convincing fashion winning eleven features in nineteen top five finishes. Runner-up Jace Owens might have been a bit closer if his weekly track, the Shady Hill Speedway, actually reported the top five in their results, but instead they do the top three in a weekly blog style report rather than using MyRacePass like most tracks do these days, thankfully! Owens had nine wins in eleven top three finishes, but he was twenty-eight points behind Cain at least we know those few fourth and fifth place finishes that would have remained would not have been enough to make up the difference. Hopefully the track writer sees this and finds some value in at least going out to the top five moving forward? Two-time champion Steve Peeden holds down third with four wins in fourteen top fives.
Derek Losh once again dominated the Modified division to earn his second straight and third overall Indiana Points title. Losh tallied fifteen wins in twenty-one top five finishes to easily outdistance runner-up Tyler Loughmiller who had two wins in twenty top fives. It was a nice jump for Loughmiller who ranked fifteenth in last year's final tally. Brayden Watson joins the podium in third with six wins in twelve top fives after sitting in fourth here in 2023.
In the Winged Sprint Cars Ethan Barrow makes it three straight to now give him four overall Indiana Points titles as he captured five checkered flags in his thirteen points paying efforts. Jordan Welch follows him in for second with two wins in nine top fives while Carson Dillion ranks third with one win to his credit and nine top fives. Welch was fourth and Dillion sixteenth in the final 2023 standings.
Indiana is the only state where we score the non-wing Sprint Cars as they dominate the racing scene across the state and, for the second year in a row, Arizona native Tye Mihocko tops the list with twelve wins in twenty-seven top fives. California transplant Ricky Lewis had a big season with ten wins in nineteen top fives to vault him to second after sitting in sixteenth in these standings last season. Third is Harley Burns who improved from eleventh last year by winning six times in seventeen points paying outings.
