This is the eighth season that I have tracked the results for the two Late Model divisions at paved tracks in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Missouri using the same 5-point scale that is used for the All Iowa Points. While I did not meet my annual goal of attending at least one pavement race in 2024, it is still interesting to keep up with those results as they can often reveal some of the up and coming drivers that we may soon see on the national scene and that is definitely the situation this season with a first-time champion in the Super Late Model division.
Fifteen-year-old Ty Fredrickson leads the way on this list for 2024 winning ten times in twenty top five finishes and the youngster was already showing flashes of brilliance last year when he tallied eighteen points and was tied for 24th here. Justin Mondeik who topped this list for three straight years starting in 2020 is this year's runner-up taking eight feature wins in thirteen points paying efforts while Gabe Sommers joins the podium in third as a six time winner in thirteen top fives. Sommers ranked fifth in 2023.
In the Late Models our champion is once again Jacob Goede who has topped the list in all eight years that we have tracked these points. This year though, it by just one marker over runner-up Shaun Scheel with third place driver Braison Bennett not far behind as well. Goede, who did not take advantage of running regularly at the Elko Speedway where the division runs two features each race night as he has in the past, was a six time feature winner in eighteen top five finishes. Scheel was a four time winner in nineteen top fives while Bennett wound up in victory lane three times in his sixteen points paying outings.
