The two-day South Dakota Nationals at Raceway Park in Jefferson brought the 2021 racing season to a close in The Mount Rushmore state and following is our annual summary of the state point standings using the same 5-point scale that we use with the All Iowa Points. This year's list includes two perennial champions and three new ones, so let's get to it!
The Late Models were a two car race that went back and forth each week as the top two drivers raced each other for the most part and in the end it was Chad Becker taking fifth straight South Dakota Points title. Becker who is also a two time Best of the Midwest champ scored twelve feature wins in thirty top five finishes on South Dakota tracks in 2021. With eleven wins in twenty-nine to fives Cole Searing is the runner-up just fourteen points back of Becker. This is just Searing's second full year in a Late Model after taking the 2019 Limited Modified South Dakota points title. Josh Scorczewski is a distant third with two wins in seventeen top five finishes.

After finishing third three times over the past five years, Mike Stearns made his way to the top of the list in 2021 for his first South Dakota Points Modified championship. The driver from Hecla was nine time feature winner in his twenty-seven top five finishes on the season and he was eleven points better than runner-up Dale Ames. It was a big jump for Ames who ranked fifteenth in 2020 as the Huron driver had the most top five finishes in the division with twenty-eight, three of them being feature wins. Sioux City Iowa's Chris Mills takes the third spot with eight wins and twenty-three top fives to his credit. Mills ranked fifth in the 2020 standings.

With Husets Speedway back in action the Winged Sprint Car drivers had more opportunities to compete this year and it was Hartford's Lee Goos Jr. who earned his first South Dakota Points championship. Goos snared four trophies in his seventeen top five finishes and was not even on the list in 2020. Justin Henderson had a solid season throughout the Midwest and with five wins and fourteen top fives coming on South Dakota soil he ranks second in these standings. Third goes to Jared Jansen who had one win in his fourteen top five finishes.

With only three southeast South Dakota tracks running the division, the Stock Cars were once again dominated by drivers that list Sioux City, Iowa, as their hometown with Travis Barker repeating his title. Barker was a fifteen time feature winner within his twenty-six top five finishes at Park Jeff, Raceway Park and Wagner. Todd Gereau is again the runner-up scoring six wins in twenty-seven top fives and Greg Taylor improves one spot from fourth to third as he won five times with nineteen top fives.
