The 2022 racing season has come to a close in the state of Nebraska and we also mark an end of an era with the finale events to be held at the I-80 Speedway between Lincoln and Omaha. Thank you to the Kosiski family for all of their hard work over the years and it is good to know that I still might run into Joe at one of his SLMR series events in the years to come. In this our seventh year of tracking Nebraska using the standard 5-point scale for every feature race run on tracks in the state, we either had a blowout or razor thin margin for the championship, nothing in between. So let's review the close races first.
By finishing second on Friday night and then winning on Saturday night this past weekend in Beatrice, Matthew Andrews jumped from third to first in the Limited Modified standings for his first Nebraska Points title. It was his seventh win on the season to go with thirty top five finishes for the driver that ranked fourth in last year's standings. Robbie Thome missed out on his second straight title by just one point as he was a winner sixteen times in his twenty-five top five finishes and Brandon Spanjer ranks third for the second year in a row after scoring eight wins in thirty top fives. It is unique that this division and state has now produced seven different champions in seven years of tracking with, in order: Kyle Prauner, Austin Svoboda, Lance Borgman, Shawn Harker, Brian Osantowski, Thome and Andrews.

The Stock Car division also came down to just one point with Cameron Wilkinson edging out Jordan Grabouski for the title. Wilkinson was a seventeen-time feature winner in 2022 as part of his thirty-six top five finishes. He finished second to Cade Richards in last year's standings. Grabouski scored forty top five finishes in his Stock Car with thirteen of those landing him in victory lane and we will talk more about "Grabo" in a couple of paragraphs. Kyle Vanover jumped from tenth last year to third in 2022 as he was a winner ten times in his thirty-three top fives.
Just one marker separated the top two in the Winged Sprint Car tally as well with Stu Snyder taking the championship after winning twice in his sixteen top five finishes. Snyder was the All Iowa Points champion in the 305 division in 202, where the Sprints are separated out by division, while in Nebraska where all three are grouped together he ranked tenth last year. Daniel Nekolite who was the 2019 South Dakota Winged Sprint Car champion is the runner-up here after winning three times in twelve top five runs and the 2021 champion Joey Danley slips to third this year with four wins in ten top fives.

Now for the blowouts.
For the fifth straight year and for the sixth time overall Cory Dumpert is the Nebraska Late Model champion. With his sixteen feature wins in twenty-six top five showings Dumpert more than doubled the points of his closest competitors. Jacob Brown ranks a distant second winning six times in thirteen top five finishes and Travis Dickes is third with twelve top fives including two victories.

After giving up the Modified title for the first time to Robbie Sillman in 2021, Jordan Grabouski came back with a vengeance to score his sixth Nebraska Points championship in seven year amassing thirty-nine top five finishes including eighteen feature victories. The 160 points that he tallied in his home state, plus some additional points in other nearby states makes Grabouski a contender in our annual "Best of the Midwest" standings that we issue in December. Jacob Hobscheidt improves two spots from fourth in 2021 to second this year with five wins in eighteen top five finishes and Anthony Roth shares those same stats as he claims the final podium slot in third.

It will be interesting to see if any of the tracks in the region will leave their traditional race night in an attempt to fill the Friday night void left by I-80 Speedway.
