With the delayed Iron Cup being completed last night at the Park Jefferson Speedway, the 2022 racing season has come to a close in the state of South Dakota and it is time to review the state point standings using the standard 5-point scale. This is our seventh year doing the South Dakota points having started in 2016.
The story remains the same in the Late Model division as Aberdeen's Chad Becker scores his sixth straight state title winning eleven feature races as part of his twenty-seven top five finishes on South Dakota dirt tracks. Becker is also a two-time winner (2017,2019) of our Best of the Midwest Late Model title where we roll all of the states together so we will have to see if he added enough points outside of South Dakota to make a run at that again in 2022. Runner-up Josh Skorczewski was an eight time winner in twenty-seven top fives as he improves one position from his 2021 ranking, The 2016 champion Kent Arment takes third this year with thirteen top fives including three victories.

The top two from 2021 remain the same in '22 for the Modifieds as Mike Stearns takes his second straight state championship with nine wins in thirty-one point earning events. Dales Ames is again in second after winning ten times in thirty top five finishes while Sioux City, Iowa, driver Bob Moore joins the podium with four wins in twenty-five top five showings.

For the fourth year in a row there is a first time champion in the Limited Modified division as Sloan, Iowa's Willy Kirk takes the honors with six wins in thirty-four top fives. Kirk's jump to the top is a big one as he only tallied five points in 2021 and finished in a tie for 62nd in these standings. The next two on the chart are the same as last year with Adam Brotherton claiming second winning eight times in twenty-seven top fives and Rusty Montagne captured nine feature wins in his twenty-five top five finishes.

This is just our third year of tracking the Stock Car division in this state and Todd Gereau ends Travis Barker's two year reign by winning his first championship. Gereau had by far the most point earning top five finishes in the division with thirty-one and five of those found him in victory lane. Barker settles for second this year winning eight times in nineteen top fives while Jason Ward takes third with two wins in his nineteen top five showings.

One more repeat champion comes in the Winged Sprint Cars as Lee Goos Jr. becomes the first winged warrior to win two South Dakota state titles. The driver from Hartford was a five time winner in his eighteen top five finishes while Rapid City's Travis "Rowdy" Reber finishes second despite only scoring points on eleven nights. He had four feature wins along the way. The 2020 champion Elliott Amdahl ranks third this year with six wins in fourteen top fives.
