Final Indiana Points for 2019

The weather delayed Monster Mash at the Montpelier Speedway was completed last Saturday to wrap up the 2019 racing season in the state of Indiana and following are the state point standings for five divisions using the same 5-point scale that is used for the All Iowa Points.

The non-wing Sprints are the premier division at most of the weekly tracks in the Hoosier state so we will look at that one first with Princeton's Kyle Cummins edging out California native Thomas Meseraull by just one point to take the title. Cummins, who ranked third in these standings in 2016 before missing out on the top ten the last two years, jumped to the top of the list by winning in fifteen of his eighteen top five feature finishes. Meseraull was in the top five three more times than the champ and had eleven wins on the season while Shane Cockrum had seven feature wins in his third-place showing. Three-time defending champion Kevin Thomas Jr. finished in the fourth spot.

In the Super Late Model standings Shelby Miles edged out two-time defending champion Devin Gilpin by one point to earn top honors in a division that does not race weekly at any track in the state. Miles had two wins in his division leading eight top five finishes while Gilpin was a four time race winner in seven top fives. Greg Johnson ranked third in the final standings.

Miles also had a good showing in the Crate Late Model division where he tied for second with Torin Mettile, just three points back of veteran driver Marty O'Neal who has now won this class all four years that the points have been compiled. O'Neal was a five-time winner in thirteen top five finishes while Miles and Mettile each scored six feature wins on the season. It should be noted that these state points are only as good as the results that are reported and the Twin Cities Speedway in North Vernon was very inconsistent in how they reported their results again this season.

Jamie Lomax continues to be the class of the Modified field in Indiana as he captured his third state title in four years. The Lake Village driver finished second in 2017 just one point behind Randy Lines. This year Lomax was a fourteen time feature winner in twenty-four top five finishes scoring just four more points than Derek Losh. The runner-up last year as well Losh had sixteen wins on the season and one less top-five finish than did Lomax. Joining them on the podium is Jordan Weaver whose previous best showing was 25th in 2016.

The Winged Sprint Car standings loop in the 410's, 360's, 305" and Crates all in one division with Lakeville's Eric Saunders coming out on top. Eric was a seven time feature winner on the season finishing ahead of Eli Lakin and John Gurley, two drivers that he raced against weekly at the Plymouth Speedway.
