Ryan Prevails For His Second All Iowa Points Late Model Title

It was a back and forth battle between the two most recent All Iowa Points Late Model champions and in the end it would be Matt Ryan that would prevail over Jeremiah Hurst for his second title in the standardized state point standings.

Also the champion in 2017, Ryan picked up twelve feature wins this season as part of his thirty-seven top five finishes and shared the IMCA Late Model National championship with Nebraska's Cory Dumpert. Hurst was the Late Model champion last year, adding to his AIP Pro Stock titles in 1998 and 2000, and in 2019 he picked up fourteen wins in thirty-four top fives. Hurst and the Roberts Racing Team #58 have indicated that they will go Open Late Model racing in 2020.

Finishing third this year was the 2003 All Iowa Points champion Jeff Aikey who might have picked up his second title had he actually started the season racing in the division. Taking the seat of the Rick Dralle owned car after Ryan Dolan had to step away for shoulder surgery in May, Aikey stormed to fourteen feature wins in his twenty-eight top five finishes and was just twenty-six points from the top at the end of the season. Aikey also finished fifth in the Modified All Iowa Points and mentored the Modified "Newcomer of the Year" Kollin Hibdon making it quite a memorable 2019 season for the veteran driver from Cedar Falls.

Tyler Bruening was at the front of the standings early in the season before posting a fourth place finish with nine wins in twenty-four top fives and Andy Nezworski was fifth with five victories in twenty-eight top fives.

The "Newcomer of the Year", defined by a driver earning his first ever All Iowa Points in this class,  was an actual rookie in the division this year as Dalton Simonson picked up nine top fives including two runner-up finishes as he finished 50th in the final standings.
