Final Kansas Points for 2019

The Chisholm Trail Showdown featuring the USMTS Modifieds at 81 Speedway near Wichita closed out the 2019 racing season in Kansas this past weekend and following are the final state point standings using the same standard 5-point scale that is used for the All Iowa Points.

After three years of being in the top four of the final standings, Marysville's Dusty Leonard rises to the top for his first Kansas Points Late Model championship. Previously Leonard was a runner-up to Chris Kratzer in 2016, in 2017 he was third behind Kratzer and Delbert Smith and last season Leonard was again third behind Cory Dumpert and Smith. In 2019 though Leonard posted seven feature wins in fifteen top five finishes to enjoy a comfortable 20 point spread over Delbert Smith who is the bridesmaid for the third year in a row. The veteran driver known as "The Iceman" chased Leonard often on race nights as he did not win a feature in his twelve top five finishes. The two time champion Kratzer ranked third.

Clay Money of Penokee has been consistent the past three seasons in these standings ranking eleventh, tenth and twelfth respectively, but in 2019 he moves to the top of the list earning the championship with the most top five finishes this year in the Modifieds with twenty-one, and eight of those were feature wins. Jordan Grabouski who picked up his fourth straight Nebraska points championship this year is also the runner-up in Kansas giving him the inside track to the "Best of the Midwest" title in the Modifieds when we combine all of the states together between the Holidays. Grabouski was an eight time feature winner on Kansas tracks this year to go with his twenty-one wins in Nebraska and this is the second time that he has been the runner-up in Kansas having finished second to Steven Bowers Jr. in 2016. Daniel Gottschalk who was the Limited Modified champion in 2016 continues to improve since moving to the Modifieds the following year as he finished third in the 2019 standings with two wins and twenty top five finishes.

Tyler Kidwell made it two in a row in the Limited Modifieds as he repeats his championship by winning seventeen times in twenty-seven top five finishes. Dakota Sproul is his runner-up for the second year in a row winning fifteen times in twenty-three top five finishes while Luke Stallbaumer had the most top fives in the state with twenty-eight as he finished in third. Stallbaumer was an eight time feature winner.

In the Winged Sprint Car division Colorado's Jake Bubak is the 2019 champion winning seven times including a clean sweep of the 305 Nationals at the Belleville Highbanks. Bubak also had two runner-up finishes on Kansas tracks to give him his 43 point total. 2016 champion Luke Cranston is this year's runner-up with three wins in eleven top fives and third goes to Oklahoma's Jake Martens.

One more state remaining to report and we will have the Missouri Points for you following the annual Turkey Bowl in Springfield and the racing in the Dome the weekend before Christmas. And looking further ahead, with some anticipated changes in my work commitments, I will likely cut back to just Iowa, Missouri and Illinois once again in 2020.
