Soppe Earns Second All Iowa Points Limited Modified Title In Tight Three Way Battle

Race fans in Stuart, Memphis and Marshalltown were treated to the late season battle between the top three drivers in the All Iowa Points Limited Modified standings as they each came from different regions of the state to compete in the same special events. In the end though Brayton Carter and defending champion Cody Thompson could not overcome the lead built up by Tyler Soppe who claimed his second AIP title.

Also the champ in 2017, Soppe scored the most points in any of the nine divisions this year winning twenty-seven times in forty-six top five finishes. That would give him eight more points than Carter who had fifty-one top fives and nineteen feature wins while Thompson won twenty-five times in forty-three top five runs on AI points paying tracks. His additional success on tracks beyond the range of these points though will likely place Thompson at the top of our "Best of the Midwest" standings that will be released following the race at the Dome just before Christmas.

The drivers ranked fourth and fifth had great seasons as well scoring enough points to earn a title in most years. Decorah's Dan Hovden put up twenty-one feature wins this year and after winning fourteen times in 2019 Jake McBirnie has indicated that he will move up to the Modified ranks in 2020.

Young Cade Richards from Lincoln, Nebraska, had an impressive 2019 season ranking 22nd in the final rundown and the "Newcomer of the Year" was a five time feature winner.
